The ban on selling tobacco products to persons under the age of 21 has come into force in the United States of America.
This is stated in a message posted on the website of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“On December 20, 2019, the President of the United States signed bills that provide for raising the minimum age for the sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. Outlets are now prohibited from selling any tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes to persons under 21 years of age. The FDA will gradually provide further details on the subject, ”the report said.
It is worth noting that a similar ban has already been imposed in 19 US states, in particular in California, New York and Texas, as well as in the metropolitan District of Columbia. However, in other regions, the minimum age at which tobacco was allowed to buy was lower.
It is known that the initiative to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to persons under 21 years old was put forward personally by US President Donald Trump in November this year.
It is recalled that in August 2019, the Illinois Department of Public Health reportedly reported the first accidental death from electronic cigarette smoking in the country as a result of a severe respiratory illness. American experts are already talking about more than 50 dead for these reasons.
