US President Joe Biden has repealed a decree issued by former President Donald Trump restricting entry to the United States for foreigners who have been outside the country and have not been granted entry. An exception was made for medics and other workers who, according to the White House, played an important role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Biden administration said Trump’s decree hit industries involving experts from around the world, delayed immigrant visas, and many families were separated for several months.
The former president claimed that temporary restrictions would help in the fight against unemployment. The document has been in force since the end of April last year.
